Roaming Guru
The role as one of our Roaming Gurus is an intense one; it involves being a lot of things, to a lot of people. Just imagine the hat collection you'll amass.
Know it, Own It - You will be supporting people roaming from not only our immediate company, but also our sister companies (we've got a big family). Conundrums come from all angles, and creative solutions are the game. In a sense, you're Captain, Pilot, and Tactical Officer, and you can expect to ensure delivery of these solutions at warp speed.
Looking for People Who Like to Tinker Around – Roaming is a high revenue market; when customers have problems, that translates into a poor customer experience, which in turn means revenue suffers. You will need to be able to solve customer issues quickly by knowing the technologies being used (notice we said “technologies” - we use quite a few). You'll also need to have a solid handle on the applications that make roaming possible. Additionally, you'll be contacting the customers directly (whether they're the CEO, or your mom and dad) to let them know we care.
You've Got to Be Able to Talk to the Geeks – Roaming isn't a walk in the park; there are a lot of intricacies involved. You will be talking with voice engineers, data engineers, SMS engineers (did we mention engineers), and not just State-side either. Yes, these geeks exist internationally too, in fact there's a whole slew of them scattered across the globe. You'll get to know engineers from other countries as you will be helping to support their customers who roam on our network. Your hat collection is growing already, and such a diverse collection it will be! This means, by the way, you'll need to be able to effectively communicate in at least 2 languages: Engineering and English (additional languages are, of course, welcomed).
What You'll Be Responsible For
We basically just told you, but if you would like to read more official sounding, corporate jargon, here you go:
- Responsible for Tier 2, End to End Roaming Support for customers across all the companies we support.
- Effective communications with various internal teams regarding roaming issues (Network, Switching, Transport, Care). Excellent communication with customers who are experiencing roaming concerns.
- Being a self-motivated individual who can work well within a team environment
- Ability to perform ongoing analysis of roaming issues while they are happening, as well as formulate preventative solutions for the future
- Responsible for working with roaming partners, domestic and international, and resolving intercarrier roaming issues
- Performance of IREG testing, both in a GSM and CDMA environment
Now that we bored you to death with the official lingo, here is what you must have, in more common terms…
- Some form of a cow’s hide with “Bachelor’s Degree” written on it, preferably from a college or university
- Excellent communication skills (outside of your family and friends). It’s hard to work with someone if they cannot understand what you’re saying or writing, right?
- Knowledge of wireless technology is a plus; CDMA and GSM is what we deal with today, but tomorrow, who knows. If you have never heard of these before, we'll give you some time to Google it and learn (2 weeks?)
- Desire to tinker around all the day long while getting the job done quickly and correctly
- Ability to adapt to changes - which are good for the heart, mind and soul
